Two way communication is considered an essential element of this school's operation. Parents are encouraged to meet with staff as a positive approach to sharing in the education process.
We encourage parents to let us know about the things they are happy with as well as contacting us if there is a problem. Early contact when there is a concern can often solve a problem and avoid little issues from escalating.
The following are some of the formal channels of communication used at the school:
Newsletter
There will be a School Newsletter sent home on a fortnightly basis with the oldest child in the family. This is the main source of communication between school and parents. Please keep yourself informed by reading the newsletter and encouraging your child to deliver it promptly. The newsletters are also available via a link on the HOME page of this website.
Term Calendar
A term calendar is issued at the beginning of each term to inform parents of forthcoming events and activities.
Assemblies
Parent assemblies are held fortnightly in the covered assembly area. These are run by the students and start at approximately 8.50 am. They are always entertaining and parents are encouraged to attend.
School Diary
In Years 4-7 the school diary is a vehicle for daily communication between the school and parents. It is also a record of homework.
The diary will facilitate opportunities for parents and teachers to acknowledge a student's achievements. Areas of concern may also be recorded.
Each diary will have an insert describing how it is to be used. However, it is the responsibility of parents to check the diary daily and sign it weekly.
Parent Surveys
From time to time parents are surveyed to provide feedback to the school about specific issues or areas of operation. Parent views are valuable in the development of a school policy. A comprehensive parent survey is conducted every second year.
Your views and opinions are important to us. We therefore urge all parents to respond to the various surveys conducted by the school.
Parent-Teacher Contact
At the beginning of each year teachers will invite parents to an evening where the class plan for the year is discussed.
Parents are also invited to the school at the end of Semester 1 to discuss reports and student progress.
If problems or concerns arise at any time the parents should first contact the class teacher. Should this prove unsatisfactory, then an interview with the Principal or a Deputy Principal is suggested.
Reporting to Parents
There are many avenues, both formal and informal, for reporting tstudent performance to parents.
SEMESTER REPORTS: Written reports summarizing student achievement across all learning areas are issued to parents at the end of Term 2 and Term 4. These reports are designed to give parents a clear and honest assessment of their child's progress.
LEARNING JOURNEYS: During 'Education Week' which is usually in Week 4, each class conducts a learning journey. Of 1 to 2 hours duration, these sessions are an opportunity for parents to experience a range of learning activities with their child and to review class practices.
INTERVIEWS: Parents are also reminded that we welcome visits from parents. Interviews may be requested at any time. An appointment is always advisable so that classes are not left unattended.
Student Absences
It is a legal requirement that all absences from school must be covered by parent explanation either via notes or telephone discussions..
Children must not leave the school grounds during the day without written parent permission.
If you need to take your child from the school for any reason, you must first go to the school office and sign a Student Release Authority.
